The greatest privilege of every Christian is to share the gospel, which is the good news, with every person who has never heard what God has done for them. This message has radically changed my life, but far more significantly, it has changed my eternal destiny. May I take a minute to tell you God’s story that has the power to change your life and destiny.
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
The first thing God wants us to know is that He is the creator and sustainer of all things. Mankind is God’s special creation because we were made in His image. As the creator of all things, He has the right to rule over His creation. Man’s responsibility was to care for God’s creation according to God’s instruction.
Revelation 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Very soon after creation man became rebellious toward God’s authority in his life and chose to go his own way and disobey God’s commands. Because God is just and righteous, disobedience brought a just discipline from God. The penalty for rebellion and disobedience is death. This penalty of death is the eternal separation of man from His creator – God.
Because of man’s willful rebellion and disobedience, he is deserving of this just judgment declared by a holy God. The Bible tells us that everyone is guilty of breaking God’s laws and thus deserving of this penalty. Have you ever stolen something, lied, cheated, hated, coveted or lusted? I know that I have, and according to God – you also have broken his laws and are deserving of the punishment – death.
Romans 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
This would be a sad and hopeless story if it ended here. It wouldn’t be good news that I would love to share with people. The story does not end here with God judging and condemning everyone to eternal separation from Him in a lake of fire. The Bible goes on to declare that God loves His creation and before He ever created, He knew man would rebel against God and that He would have to send judgment.
So, from the very beginning God’s plan was to send His own perfect son – Jesus Christ – to become a man even while He was fully God and to live a perfect life. At the end of that perfect life He was falsely condemned by His own fallen creation and sentenced to die a crucifixion death. It was God himself paying the just penalty that His righteousness demanded. You will remember that God has declared that the penalty for sin is death and that all of us have sinned and are worthy of this just penalty.
The good news is that God loved us so much that He sent His sinless Son to pay our penalty for us - the just paying for the unjust. The proof that Jesus is God’s Son and God in human flesh is the fact that the Bible declares He raised himself from the dead. After he died on the cross for our sins, He was taken down and buried in a tomb. Three days later He came out of that grave alive. Jesus had satisfied the just requirement of Holy God. The payment for sin – death – had been paid by God for His fallen creation. He died for us and then arose from the dead to satisfy His own righteous demand because He loved us.
Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
Titus 2:14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.
God offers full forgiveness and complete salvation to anyone who will repent of their sin and by faith accept as full payment for sin, what Jesus Christ did for them on the cross. Repentance is not the idea of simply being sorry for your sin, but rather, turning away from your sin and turning to Christ for forgiveness. It has the idea of a change of mind. Salvation also requires a believing/receiving of Jesus Christ as payment for your sin.
The Bible describes life as being two roads. There is a broad road that leads to destruction and is full of people going their own way and doing their own thing. It is the way that ends up in eternal destruction and separation from God in the lake of fire. This is the result when man chooses to reject God’s gift of salvation and pay his own sin penalty.
The second road is the narrow path of righteousness that leads a person the opposite direction. Only repentance (turning from the old path of destruction) and faith (trusting in the death and resurrection of Christ as payment for your sin, can put you on the opposite path that leads to salvation and eternal life with God in a perfect place called Heaven. There is no other way to get on this road to eternal life but by trusting in what Christ did for you.
Acts 3:19 Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;
John 1:11-12 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.
God’s invitation is for you to recognize your rejection of God’s authority in your life and the eternal judgment of separation from God. He extends to you the opportunity to respond to the love that God has for you by believing and receiving what Jesus Christ did for you when He died in your place, paying your sin debt and then raising from the dead. It is trusting only and completely in God’s gift and receiving Jesus Christ as your savior from sin. The choice is yours. God’s desire is that you would turn from your sin to receive God’s forgiveness through Christ. Would you believe on him today?
From my earliest childhood I had be taught what Christ had done for me and how that I might be born again. At the age of eight, the Holy Spirit convicted me of my sinful will and ways and with simple, childlike faith I called out to God. I acknowledged my sinful condition and its consequences and asked God to forgive and save me. He heard my prayer, saved my soul and come to live in me.
Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
